Fixed Cage Ladder
A fixed cage ladder is a permanently attached vertical ladder wrapped in a cylindrical safety cage of hoops and vertical bars. The cage surrounds the climber from about 2.2 m above the base, keeping the body inside the guard so an accidental slip cannot fall backwards out of the ladder.

Cage vs PFAS vs LSS — Which Fall Protection to Pick
Climbs of 10–24 ft where your site spec or legacy policy still calls for a cage; UK/EU projects per BS 4211 and EN ISO 14122-4; retrofits onto an existing ladder where a rail cannot be mounted.
New US installs above 24 ft — under OSHA 1910.28 a cage alone is no longer accepted for new ladders, so we fit a rigid rail or cable system with a sliding sleeve for daily multi-user climbing.
Low-frequency maintenance access above 24 ft where the worker wears a full-body harness and lanyard attached to a certified anchorage — anchorage points included in our calcs.
Fixed cage ladder questions
The cage starts 7–8 ft (2.2 m) above the base and extends 42 in (1.07 m) above the top landing, so the exit onto the platform stays guarded.
Hoops are spaced at ≤ 1,150 mm vertical pitch with 8 vertical bars per hoop set, bars spaced ≤ 240 mm apart and welded at the arc points.
No — new US installs above 24 ft need a PFAS or ladder safety system. Existing cages are grandfathered until November 2036.
