Guard Range

Fixed Ladder Guards

Fixed ladder guards protect the climber where a ladder breaks through a floor or meets a landing. We build them as add-ons to a new ladder or as upgrades to an existing one — always matched to your rail width.

Cage Hoop Guards

40 × 5 mm flat hoop bands welded to the rungs at Φ700 mm (≈29 in) inside diameter — the same 29-inch ID used by Cotterman, so spec for spec your guards line up with industry-standard caging.

Exit Guards

Top-of-ladder exit protection per DIN 18799-3 — a full-width guard that guides the climber onto the landing and stops falls at the exit point.

Walk-Through & Gate Guards

Guards with an integrated opening and a self-closing swing gate, with a lockable option — A-Mezz style lockable doors, built to your opening size.

Guard Standards

Compliance & DoCumentation (OSHA/BS 4211/EN ISO 14122-4)

  • OSHA 1910.23 — Guard & Gate Compliance
  • DIN 18799-3 — Exit Guards
  • ANSI A14.3 — Cage Guards
  • OSHA 1910.27 / BS 4211 / EN ISO 14122-4
  • AS 1657 — Australian Compliance
OSHA 2018 update: fixed ladders over 24 ft installed after Nov 19, 2018 require a personal fall arrest system (PFAS) or ladder safety system — a cage alone no longer satisfies. Ask us for a PFAS-ready configuration.

Documentation Package

Every guard order ships with complete documentation — no extra cost, no paywall.

  • Declaration of Conformity (DoC)
  • Material Test Certificates — EN 10204 3.1
  • Structural Calculations
  • Welding Procedure Specifications
  • Surface treatment certificates (HDG per ISO 1461)

Quick Answers

Common questions

Are guards built into new ladders or sold separately?

Both — we build guards into new ladders at the factory or supply them as upgrades for an existing ladder, always matched to your rail width.

What is the standard hoop spacing on a cage?

Cage hoops are spaced at 350 mm centers, welded with 40 × 5 mm flat bands at Φ700 mm (≈29 in) inside diameter.

Which compliance documents ship with guards?

Every guard order includes the DoC and structural calculations; guards built to OSHA 1910.23 or DIN 18799-3 exit-guard specs ship with the relevant certificate.

Can a guard include a lockable swing gate?

Yes — walk-through and gate guards come with a self-closing swing gate and a lockable option, built to your opening size.

Do your guards match competitor caging dimensions?

Yes — Φ700 mm (≈29 in ID) follows the industry convention used by brands such as Cotterman, so replacement guards line up with existing caging.

Fixed Ladder Guards — Sizes, Materials & Standards

Guards close the gaps around a ladder — the cage around the climb, the exit guard at the landing, and the opening guard at floor level. Each one has a size and a standard behind it.

Guards are built with the ladder so the fit is exact — same material, same finish, same weld class (ISO 5817 C). They can also be retrofitted: send the opening or cage dimensions and we fabricate a matched guard.

Fixed Ladder Guards — FAQ

What are fixed ladder guards?

Guards are the protective elements around a ladder — cage hoops and bars, exit guard hoops, landing opening guards, and swing gates — sized to the ladder geometry.

What size are standard cage guard hoops?

Φ700 mm inside diameter (≈29″ ID), made from 40 × 5 mm flat steel, with vertical bars on ~300 mm centers — matching the cage standard used industry-wide.

What materials are guards made from?

Q235B carbon steel with HDG 85–100 µm, or stainless SS304/SS316 for corrosive environments — same material as the ladder for a matched finish.

Which standards cover ladder guards?

OSHA 1910.23 and 1910.28 for openings and cages, ANSI A14.3 and BS 4211 for cage geometry, DIN 18799-3 for exit guards, ANSI A1264.1 for gates.

Can guards be added to an existing ladder?

Yes — retrofit hoops, exit guards, and swing gates are fabricated to your measured opening and welded or bolted to the existing ladder with the same finish.
