Fixed Ladders Without Cages — When It Is Allowed
A cage is one fall-protection option, not the only one. Below 24 ft a plain fixed ladder is enough; above that, a ladder safety system or PFAS takes over — both cheaper and lighter than a cage.
LSS vs PFAS for No-Cage Ladders
Rigid rail or cable with a sliding sleeve on the rungs. Best for daily multi-user climbing — no harness training per climb, automatic engagement, and the rail ships pre-drilled with the ladder.
Full-body harness with lanyard clipped to a certified anchorage point. Best for occasional maintenance access — the lightest and lowest-cost option, with anchorage loads included in our structural calcs.
