Permanent vs. Portable
Permanent Fixed Ladder
A permanent fixed ladder is bolted and anchored to the structure — it stays in place for the life of the facility. Unlike a portable ladder, it is engineered for continuous daily use, carries its full load rating through the anchors, and can be combined with a cage or fall-arrest rail for code compliance.

Substrate Selection
Choose the fixing for your wall
- Reinforced concrete (C25/30): M12 chemical anchor, 70 – 80 mm embedment — the highest-capacity fixing; used for tall and heavily loaded ladders.
- Brick / block masonry: M12 sleeve anchors in solid units; hollow blocks get chemical anchors with mesh sleeves — always capacity-checked per calc.
- Structural steel: M12 bolts through brackets, or a 4 – 6 mm fillet weld where the drawing specifies welding.

The Calc Sheet
What is verified before the anchor is specified
- Pull-out: each M12 anchor is checked in tension against the ladder's applied loads, with the safety factor applied.
- Shear: horizontal loads (climber forces, wind on the cage) are checked per anchor in shear.
- Overturning: the whole ladder is checked as a cantilever on its anchor group — the calc proves the fixing pattern, not just the steel.
- Delivered with order: structural calcs, DoC and MTC 3.1 ship with every permanent ladder — audit-ready from day one.
